About Us

Vision

Galena Backcountry Ski Patrol (GBSP) is a well trained team for the backcountry, avalanche dogs and high angle Search & Rescue in cooperation with local Blaine County Search and Rescue, City and Rural EMS Teams primarily during the winter season.  Education for Backcountry Travel, Avalanche, Mountain Travel and Rescue (MTR), Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and other National Ski Patrol (NSP) programs.

Goal

To maintain a highly trained snow team to respond to off-road accidents for the Ketchum Fire District.

To maintain a response team trained in snow travel and rescue to assist Blaine Country Search & Rescue.

To maintain the USFS Memorandum Agreement for the GBSP Yurt for the primary purposes stated therein, namely candidate training and patroller refreshers.

To maintain the GBSP Yurt as a safety shelter with adequate provisions and clear instructions for education use by other local educational organizations teaching backcountry travel skills and/or for emergency use by travelers.

To provide avalanche, OEC and backcountry travel education to the local community.

To assist and help support local events such as BMT, Rotorun Ski Area, Rocky Mountain Folk Festival, etc.
